The Good

the majesty of the past

Photo Credit: Blue Phone I (2011) by John Hicks

the majesty of the past

is a low dollar delusional comfort

that dislocates my attention

while rolling down the street on my bicycle

so that I don’t even notice

the wind in my face

a mountain of memories

drowns out the honk of the horn

as I swerve to dodge a gray car

I try to run away

to back in the day

but the light turns yellow

and I clank up to a higher gear

get off of the seat

and pump through the intersection

suddenly the glowing peaks of the past

are gone

cleared out

and quickly I’m in the world

a helicopter whooping overhead

sweat running down my back

a cardinal angling for the trees

the roadrocketing under me
